Popup notifications

Popup settings

Behavior, channels, timing, frequency caps, and rules that control when and how popups appear.

Settings hub

Open Popup notifications → Settings. Settings are grouped into General, Channels, Timing, and Rules.

General

  • Display on desktop / mobile: toggle each device class
  • Initial display trigger: show on page load, or wait until the visitor starts scrolling
  • Loop notifications: cycle through the queue repeatedly
  • Display in random order: shuffle instead of newest-first
  • Pause on hover: freeze the cycle while the shopper hovers a card
  • Link to product: make the notification clickable to the product page
  • Show close button: let shoppers dismiss; dismissed popups stop for that browser session
  • Show verified badge: display the Verified link on purchase notifications
  • Add UTM parameters: append tracking params to product links (utm_source, utm_medium)

Channels

  • Online store orders: web purchases
  • POS orders: Shopify POS sales
  • Product reviews: compatible review app events
  • Product selection from order: when an order has multiple items, pick random, lowest-value, or highest-value product for the notification

Timing & frequency caps

Recently does not have a separate “quiet hours” setting. Use the controls below to pace notifications and avoid overwhelming shoppers.

Delays & duration

  • Initial delay (0–60 seconds): wait before the first popup after page load. Optional randomized range instead of a fixed value.
  • Display duration (1–30 seconds): how long each notification stays visible
  • Interval (1–120 seconds): gap between notifications. Optional randomized range.

Initial delay only applies when the trigger is On page load. With On scroll, the first popup appears after scrolling starts.

Limits

  • Max notifications per page load: cap per single page view (0 = unlimited)
  • Max notifications per session: cap across the entire browser session, including page navigations (0 = unlimited)
  • Only show orders newer than: ignore orders older than a set age
  • Hide relative time after: stop showing “X minutes ago” for events older than the threshold (the notification can still appear)

Rules

Rules let you filter or modify notifications before they are created or shown. Each rule has a condition and an action.

Condition fields

  • First name, city, province, country
  • Page URL, email, recipient name
  • Order total
  • Product title, variant title
  • Product (picker), product in collection

Actions

  • Do not create: skip notification creation entirely
  • Do not show: create but hide on matching page URLs
  • Change value: rewrite first name, city, province, country, or product title

Legacy page, product, and collection exceptions are automatically migrated into rules when you open settings.

Recommended starting points

  • Conservative: 5–8 second initial delay, 8 second duration, 12 second interval, max 3 per page load
  • High-traffic: shorter intervals but keep session limits (e.g. max 8 per session) to protect returning visitors
  • Privacy: rules to redact first names or block specific countries from appearing
