What web push does
Web push lets you send browser notifications to shoppers who opted in on your storefront. Unlike email, push appears instantly on desktop and mobile (where supported) without requiring an inbox check.
Recently handles permission prompts, subscriber management, automated lifecycle pushes, and manual announcement campaigns: all from one admin section.
Setup
- Enable the Recently Push theme app embed, see Install
- Customize the permission prompt in Push notifications → Appearance
- Configure automated push types in Push settings
- Edit localized copy in Push notifications → Template
Permission prompt
Before any push is sent, shoppers must grant browser permission. Recently shows a custom prompt (not the raw browser dialog) explaining the value.
Prompt styles: Compact card, Bar, or Pill. Each supports corner or edge placement with separate mobile overrides.
Timing: Show on page load or on scroll, with an optional initial delay (0–60 seconds). Desktop and mobile can be toggled independently.
Appearance drafts work the same as popup. Create drafts, preview, and publish when ready.
Automated push types
After a shopper subscribes, Recently can send automated notifications based on store events. Configure each type in Push settings:
- Abandoned checkout: remind shoppers who left items in cart (delay: 15 min, 1h, 4h, 24h, 48h, or 7 days)
- Order shipped: fulfillment notification
- Order tracking updates: carrier status changes
- Back in stock: notify recent product viewers when inventory returns
- Price drop: notify recent viewers when price decreases
- Custom announcements: used with manual campaigns
Each type has a Send test button so you can verify delivery to a subscribed device before going live.
Subscribers
Open Push notifications → Subscribers to browse opted-in devices. The table shows:
- Status (active or unsubscribed)
- Operating system, browser, and device type
- Language and last seen timestamp
Filter by status, OS, browser, device type, or language. Save custom table views for repeated audience analysis. The subscriber list is read-only: shoppers unsubscribe via their browser or device settings.
Templates
Push notifications → Template holds localized copy for:
- Permission prompt (title, body, Allow, Deny buttons)
- Each automated push type (title and body)
Add translations the same way as popup templates. Shoppers see copy in their browser language when available.
